Sussex Defend the NHS supports the call from NHS unions for parties to focus on and deliver their NHS pledges in this general election. What is clear is that the Tories are currently dismantling the NHS at pace.
On Saturday 29th April we are hosting a showing of Sicko at the Duke of Yorks cinema. This is Michael Moore's 2007 documentary film about the US health system. Given that Accountable Care Organisations are being implemented here it's a very timely reminder of what we're up against. Sussex Defend are hosting this film with the support of the Dukes staff - currently in a dispute with their employer, Picturehouse, over union recognition and are demanding a living wage. We fully support these demands.
Please support us in maintaining pressure on local councils as parts of our Sustainability and Transformation Plan are 'sneaked in' by Clinical Commissioning Groups, new governance structures are passed and access is restricted to services - all with no public consultation or debate.
At the CCG meeting in March the Brighton and Hove part (Central Sussex and East Sussex Area) of the STP was incorporated into our CCG's operating plan. Exactly what will this mean for us and for the wider footprint area is not known. There has been NO PUBLIC CONSULTATION. Brighton and Hove Council is now signed up to the STP even though its own Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee working group is still in the process of examining the STP plan.
